Throughout our days we are immersed in light phenomena, visual patterning and energy movement. With my painting I intend to create an experience for the viewer similar to a spontaneous happening in nature. The brush work becomes alive and interactive. I feel like an acupuncturist who can see energetic blockages in the canvas and remove them so that the life forces can flow as freely and healthily as possible. I want the paintings to foster creativity of thought and inspire others to see into the realms of infinite possibility. The works can be useful tools to help people widen their visual capacity and better see the dramatic and subtle phenomena which surrounds us.
Taj Vaccarella is known for imbuing his canvases with a complex abstract brush technique that opens steadily as the viewer engages them. Born in the Catskill mountains of New York state Taj has been painting and drawing since age three. His work spans a wide range of subject matter, including portraits, the seasonal landscape and large vivid abstracts. Taj studied sculpture and anatomy in the Loire Valley in France and is self taught in his oil technique. Deciding at age sixteen that painting would be his livelihood, Taj has been selling and exhibiting ever since. His paintings live in private and public collections throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Taj does not consider his work to be political, however, he states, “Globally, the values of art have gotten out of hand. I believe we are in the midst of a major renaissance, a return to beauty, and I’m fighting on that front.” Major stylistic influences include Gustav Klimt, Paul Gauguin, Jean Dubuffet, Mark Rothko and many of the brush painters and calligraphers of ancient Japan and China.
